What Are Covenants?

One of the major features coming to World of Warcraft in Shadowlands, is Covenants.

You’ll be able to choose one of 4 covenants which rule over the Shadowlands. These Covenants will offer unique rewards including Mounts, special armor appearances and a campaign.

One of these Covenants include the Kyrian who are residents of Bastion. They play the role of angelic soul guides, tasked with carrying souls between the lands of the living and the dead. Souls that are chosen to join the Kyrian Covenant are tasked with discarding past burdens by seeking virtue. Living beings have wished to become something greater than themselves since time immemorial. Souls deemed noble enough can prove themselves in Bastion, land of pristine spires and crystalline skies, where those who surpass their trials earn the honor of ascension to a higher calling beside the Archon, first among the winged kyrians.

Covenant Sanctum: Elysian Hold

If you choose to join the Kyrian Covenant, you’ll get access to Elysian Hold. A unique Sanctum only available to their members. The hold is their seat of power. Home to many of the key figures you’ll be working with throughout the Kyrian campaign. Throughout your adventures within the Shadowlands and as you gain the covenant’s trust. Concluding in you being able to upgrade new sanctum features. Above all, it is here that you’ll deliver Anima to deposit into the Covenant’s reservoir in addition to take on new quests and much more.

Kyrian Covenant Special Abilities

All members of the Kyrian Covenant receive a signature ability which is the same for all Kyrian and one combat ability which will depend on your class.

Kyrian’s Signature Ability:

Summon Steward – Call your steward to bring you a Phial of Serenity that can be consumed to restore 20% health and remove all Curse, Disease, Poison, and Bleed effects. Your Steward additionally offers access to a selection of useful amenities for 4 min.

Kyrian’s Unique Feature: The Path Of Ascension

The Path of Ascension is accessible by all members of the Kyrian Covenant, helping their Soulbinds test their mettle. You’ll help your Soulbinds by gathering the materials necessary to summon or capture a boss, as well as tools to help them equalize the fight.

Kyrian Soulbinds

Soulbinds allow you to share powers with a mighty denizen of your chosen Covenant. By undergoing a ritual with this being. You will have access to a Soulbind tree that will give access to specific powers of that denizen. These new powers are earned over time, as you improve your relationship through the Soulbind. Each being capable of forming a Soulbind has their own character, story, and powers to lend.

Pelagos

Pelagos trains diligently for ascension even in the face of challenge and adversity. Along with Kleia, his other soulbind, Pelagos is quick to befriend you as you seek an audience with the Archon and confront the Forsworn threat. Despite the trials he faces, Pelagos pushes ever forward, steadfast and optimistic.

Bond of Friendship: Defeating enemies slightly reduces the cooldown on your Steward’s non-Phial services per enemy defeated.

Combat Meditation: Using your Kyrian class spell or ability increases your Mastery slightly for a moderate amount of time and occasionally expels Sorrowful Memories. Walking through Sorrowful Memories extends this effect by a short time.

Kleia

Kleia met you while she was still an aspirant. She demonstrated to her soulbound companion Pelagos and the rest of the kyrian that she wants to push forward and best any trials they faced. A caring mentor to Pelagos and you, she will do whatever she can to protect her friends and Bastion.

Ascendant Phial: Phial of Serenity renders you immune to Curse, Disease, Poison, and Bleed effects for several seconds.

Valiant Strikes: You and your nearby allies’ critical strikes grant you stacks of Valiant Strikes. Once you maximize your stacks, you heal nearby allies for 5% of their maximum health over 10 seconds.

Forgelite Prime Mikanikos

Forgelite Prime Mikanikos, a steward of Bastion, showed promise from his earliest days and quickly rose to the rank of Forgelite Prime. He was the primary inventor of many of Bastion’s most iconic creations. Recognizing the potential of the Maw Walker, he became a formidable ally to help you get to the bottom of the anima drought and take on other threats.

Charged Additive: Phial of Serenity also knocks nearby enemies away from you.

Bron’s Call to Action: After using a significant amount of spells and abilities, your next spell or ability summons Bron, who attacks and heals your targets.

Kyrian Covenant Rewards

Each Covenant will have a specific mount available. These mounts will have different color options from the start. After that, an upgraded version of the mount will become available. Upgrading the mount will have a process reminiscent of difficult-to-obtain Artifact skins from Legion.

There will be at least one Covenant-specific Battle Pet for each of the four Covenants. These will be different from “normal” battle pets, in that they will each have a specific function within different zones. For example, one pet has been reported that it “eats up slime pools and gets you items” when brought out in Maldraxxus, although there is no report about which Covenant-specific pet will have this ability. This gives them the unique ability to interact with the world around them.
